History of the Saint Petersburg University of Management and Economics goes back to December 27, 1990, when a training center was established as a small-scale state-run enterprise “Professional” by the joint resolution of Lensovet utive Committee and Leningrad Department of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The Center was engaged in retraining and further training of state employees and managers of enterprises in Saint Petersburg, Leningrad Region and other regions of Russia. Based on this Center, the institution of higher education “Higher School of Managers” was established and incorporated as a legal entity by the Saint Petersburg Mayor's Office Registration Chamber Resolution ? 11147 of October 11, 1994. SPbUME is one of the largest educational institutions in Russia which provides European education in Russia. The University has modern teaching facilities and aids, over 70 computer classes, and a library with holdings over 600 thousand copies of special, scientific and academic books. Over 30 thousand students, learners, doctoral candidates and postgraduate students annually receive training at the University in 76 specializations that are currently in great demand under present-day economic conditions.
