From a limited beginning in November of 1957, the Military Technical College has evolved into a comprehensive college of national and international prominence. As nation's unique technical military school, it is an institution that firmly embraces a history of putting knowledge to work. MTC schools (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil and Architectural Engineering, and Basic Engineering Sciences ) offer more degree programs than any other college of engineering in the country with 32 departments. MTC is one of the nation's leaders in developing and using new instructional technologies. The MTC was established to aid fulfilling one basic principle of the 23rd of July revolution, to build a strong Egyptian army. As a milestone in building this army, the role of recent technologies and modern trends in armament came to mind. Thus, the idea of establishing a technical military academy became essential to supply the newborn army with engineers who constitute its technical mind. So, in October 27th 1957 the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces issued an order to establish a scientific military college to supply the army with its need of the professional engineers.
